How to Design Your Custom Socks- Guidelines in 2019

This post is arranged to guide our potential clients of the whole manufacturing process of custom socks design. Namely, from the original design online to the last stitch of yarn in the sock factory. Custom socks manufacturing requires a great deal of preparation before the mass production as any other commodities. Specifically, this would include pattern preparation, color & size arrangement, typography, logo choices, and sample making.

As the starting point of an order, the pattern designing is indispensable. Normally, common and classic pattern include argyles, polka dots, and colorful strips. They are normally favored in some official occasion such as meetings and the daily work. This could be disliked by youngsters as they normally fall in love with some bizarre or cartoon or light color patterns. But no matter what pattern it is, there is something that must be noticed by the designer.

1. Determine the sock size

As for the size, the normal practice is that the width of the standard socks pair is about 168 stitches, while the length would depend on the overall size, that’s for sure.

Some socks designs work on small size and some on the large size. Therefore, you may need to figure out exactly the type of socks you want to wear. It can take a little bit of time, but it will surely be worth it to opt for this type of approach.

There are 3 types of socks that you may turn to custom logo socks. They are the low cut sport, the angle dress, and knee-length socks. The first one is for recreational or heel; the next one is more suitable for the daily situation and the last one needs to provide more support to your knees and your feet as a whole. Though they could be a little bit heavier, it’s safe to say that they are more powerful and helpful than the other two designs. You may see them are selected in some drastic occasions such as sports or cheerleaders.

In all, the socks design needs to match the sock size. Otherwise, the design of the sock would be very strange in that size. In fact, this can be a rather challenging thing that you need to address before settle down your socks design on a specific size. Consulting with the manufacturers would be a good idea to avoid this.

2. Decide the colors match

Color is a factor that should be carefully dealt with by both the buyer and the seller. Though the fact is we may cater you no matter what color favor you as they are thatched with the thread colors, still based on different occasions or usage, different colors may have a different function. That is to say for example black may work well in some business man while it may work well among a group of youngsters as they possibly favor some light colors such as green or red.

Generally, when you select certain socks, there is one rule that you should concern. Match your socks with your overall attires. It is to say the socks that you wear need to match your pants and your shoes. That doesn’t mean you must have a 100% match, but you need something that helps you express your identity without looking rambling and casual in some official occasions. This type of socks tends to have very neutral colors, such as all black or all gray. Aside from that, you can also have a pattern on the socks. The pattern could be classic argyle, which is pretty much a set of geometric shapes. Though it’s not the ultimate style or the perfect set of visuals, it’s still looking great and it does bring in front some rather impressive and unique features that you want to take into consideration.

That’s why you need to take your time when you are attracted by a design. Not all designs will match your vision and the occasion. So you have to be very picky in regards. Of course, entertainment hours would allow you to go as you like.

Last but not least, Cost should also be concerned. Generally, the more colors a sock have, the more expensive it would be. The reason is 20% of each color yarn is usually wasted as they cannot be stored for a long time. Therefore, in the deal with this problem, we would suggest our clients have a bigger order as the bigger the order is, the cheaper the yarn would be, so is the overall costs of the order.

3. Settle down your logo design

This mostly comes down to the types of the logo that you may have and the type of socks that you are working with. Some of the sock types may be very impressive and visually attractive, but if you want to add a logo, you do need enough space. This is why most of the custom logo socks are designed to be large in size and the logos on their own are pretty small.

But in the end, it all comes down to your favors. Each socks design is designed to be simple, interesting and it brings in front some of the unique features that truly impress you. It’s important to take your time and identify all the possible options. Don’t be panic if you happen to be incapable of producing the logo on your own. There are some factories such as our companies—Yhao socks are capable of OEM for clients worldwide. In all, value and quality are critical as they bring the best customers experiences and sound profits.

4. Typography
Typography on socks: it is our suggestion that text on socks is to be kept to a minimum as the size of a sock is comparatively not big enough. Normally, a production file for knitting is prepared at a 168-pixel (168 needle machines) wide bitmap image. At this fixed size, the smaller the type, the poorer the legibility. If a logotype or byline is needed, we would be willing to suggest to our clients place it on the footbed of the socks. This ensures that the type will not be distorted by the stretch of the sock and that the main pattern will not be interrupted in the end.
5. Transfer the general designs into template file

After setting down the above steps, we then need to transfer the general arrangement into a production sized bitmap image file. This is handled by skillful programming teams or knitting technicians.

Once the file is finished, we will review it to ensure it meets the required technical specifications. Please send us your native files and PDF mockup, and we will review and put forward changes that may need to be done to make sure it manufactured as desired.

Of course, this step may be arranged again after the sample making. This is needed once the clients have some other requirements or unsatisfied with the sample.

6. Sample making

After settle down your desired pattern and relative details, then you just need to decide how to have them manufactured. The first option here is that you may weave the socks with a certain pattern or image, which can be really a good option. However, it can be challenging to weave small lines or figures. Though some of them can be added after the socks are manufactured, but they may not deliver the same looks as you desired. So, you have to identify the right look for them beforehand.

A sample is indispensable before it comes to the mass production in case it might be unsatisfactory for both sides. Sampling in this way enables the clients and the factories to check whether the socks work or not. Some trial, quality inspection, and error test could be well arranged in this stage to see if everything melds.

7. Mass production

If the samples are well received by our clients, the mass production then follows. Otherwise, mass production would wait until some improvements are arranged and work out in the end.

In all, our general rule is to deliver the ultimate services and build up the business ties in the end.
